Meta has taken a significant step in the humanoid robot field by acquiring the startup Assured Robot Intelligence (ARI). This development will enhance Meta's focus on robot technologies and contribute to the development of robots that can understand human behavior.
ARI's Purpose and Activities
Assured Robot Intelligence works on foundation model-based systems that improve robots' ability to adapt in complex environments. Focusing particularly on the development of humanoid robots capable of performing household tasks, ARI had previously received investment from AIX Ventures.
With this acquisition, team members, including co-founders Xiaolong Wang and Lerrel Pinto, will join Meta’s Superintelligence Labs research unit. This way, Meta plans to further strengthen its research on humanoid robots.
Market Potential and Future Expectations
The work being done on how artificial intelligence learns through interaction with the physical world appears to be a general trend in the industry. According to Goldman Sachs, the market size could reach $38 billion by 2035, while Morgan Stanley predicts it could rise to $5 trillion by 2050. This situation highlights the uncertainties in the industry and the high growth potential.
