Zoom Enhances Meeting Security with Biometric Authentication

Zoom's biometric verification system

In recent years, the rise of fraud techniques has prompted video conferencing platforms to reassess their security strategies. Zoom is introducing an important innovation in this context. The company has partnered with World to develop a system that identifies participants in meetings to combat AI-supported deepfake fraud.

Biometric Identity Verification Technology

This new system operates through a technology called Deep Face. The technology analyzes and matches live video footage using biometric data created from users' iris scans. When a match is confirmed, a Verified Human badge will appear next to the participant's name.

Due to the increasing cases of deepfake fraud, this feature aims to provide an additional layer of security for meetings. Zoom's approach goes beyond image analysis techniques, transitioning directly to individual identity verification.

Limitations and Future Vision

However, the system has some limitations. Users must possess a World ID and have physically undergone iris scanning with Orb devices. This requirement means that the technology is currently limited to corporate environments that demand high security.

Zoom's initiative is a significant step towards providing an effective solution against increasing security demands and AI-driven threats. The company aims to go beyond being just a video conferencing service provider and offer more secure communication solutions.
