YouTube is introducing an important innovation to enhance user experience. The platform will now automatically mute push notifications from channels that users have not interacted with for a certain period. This feature was tested earlier this year with a limited group of users and is now being gradually rolled out to all users.
According to the new regulation, if a user has not interacted with a subscribed channel in the last 30 days, notifications from that channel will not be sent to mobile devices. However, this content will still appear in the notifications section within the app.
The reason behind Google's decision is the desire to reduce notification fatigue. Constant exposure to content that does not engage users can lead them to eventually turn off all notifications. This situation can negatively impact both engagement rates on the platform and the reach of content creators.
Additionally, YouTube emphasizes that there will be no changes for users who frequently respond to notifications. Channels that share content infrequently will also not be affected by this update; this aims to maintain the visibility of content creators, especially those with long production processes. It is still unclear whether notifications will automatically re-enable when users interact with the relevant channel again.
