The Beijing-based artificial intelligence company Moonshot AI raised approximately $2 billion in its latest funding round. The funding was led by the venture arm of Meituan, a leader in food delivery. Thus, Moonshot's total valuation exceeded $20 billion.
Last year, the company reached a valuation of $4.3 billion in the fourth quarter and had received an investment of $500 million at that time. With the latest investment, Moonshot's value has increased more than fourfold in just a few months. Earlier this year, Moonshot raised an additional $700 million at a valuation of $10 billion and then sought further investment.
Innovative Technologies and Revenue Growth
The founder, former Tsinghua University professor Yang Zhilin, has previously worked at Meta and Google. The company offers tiered subscription models for chatbots and provides its core technology to enterprise clients. In January, Moonshot attracted attention with its Kimi K2.5 model, and in April, it introduced a new open-source model, Kimi K2.6. According to shared data, Moonshot's annual recurring revenue surpassed $200 million in April with subscriptions for Kimi chatbots and AI services.
Investor interest in China-based ventures competing with major rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic is increasing. For example, DeepSeek is attracting attention with a valuation of approximately $45 billion. Similarly, Moonshot's competitors MiniMax and Zhipu AI have also reached valuations exceeding $30 billion following their IPOs in Hong Kong in January.
