A significant player in semiconductor chip design, SiFive has raised $400 million in its latest funding round. This financing was led by Atreides Management, bringing the valuation of the U.S.-based company to $3.65 billion.
SiFive stated that it will use the new investment to develop RISC-V based data center and artificial intelligence processors, and it plans to expand its engineering teams as well.
Founded in 2015 by Krste Asanović, Yunsup Lee, and Andrew Waterman, SiFive offers licensing services to other companies by developing processor architectures and design templates rather than physical chip manufacturing.
Flexibility with Open Standard RISC-V Architecture
The open standard RISC-V architecture offered by SiFive provides companies with high flexibility. This allows customers to customize processors according to their needs. Focusing on data centers, artificial intelligence, and high-performance computing, SiFive aims to provide faster and more efficient solutions as an alternative to traditional closed architectures like Intel and ARM.
