Zoom Enhances Meeting Security with Biometric Identification

Biometric identity verification system developed by Zoom to enhance meeting security

In today's world, taking security measures against increasing digital fraud cases is of great importance. In this context, Zoom has taken an innovative step to ensure meeting security by partnering with World. This AI-supported new system uses biometric identification methods to verify the true identities of participants.

Biometric Identification Process

The new application operates with a technology called Deep Face. This technology checks the biometric data created by users' iris scans through live video streaming. When the verification among participants is successful, a Verified Human badge is displayed next to them.

This feature serves as an additional security measure against the increasing cases of deepfake fraud in recent years. Zoom aims to go beyond detection methods limited to image analysis by providing direct identity confirmation.

Limitations and Future Perspective

However, the system has some limitations. Users need to have a World ID and must have previously undergone iris scanning with Orb devices, which poses a barrier to the overall use of the application.

This step taken by Zoom demonstrates its response to the growing security demands in the video conferencing field and AI-related threats. With this innovation, the company aims to provide a more secure communication environment for its users, moving beyond being just a meeting platform.

At the same time, this integration opportunity for World allows biometric identification technology to find its place in the corporate world, beyond individual use cases. Thus, it becomes possible for the system to reach a broader market.
